Although the drive is capable of only 40x Write, 12x ReWrite and 40x Read, the main appeal for this drive is the interface. Additionally, the Plextor PleXWriter 40/12/40S has all the features common to Plextor drives such as Burn-Proof, Power Rec and Vari Rec technology. As we¡¦ve discussed these in the past, we¡¦ll move right on to the interface. The drive as the specifications say is based on the Ultra SCSI interface which allows for a maximum data transfer rate of 20MB/s. Realizing that the Ultra SCSI interface may not be fast enough to keep the drives writing heads happy, Plextor have equipped the drive with a 4MB buffer.
