A couple of weeks a go a 9.1 update was made available which seems to squash bugs pretty well and add a couple of new features. Is it better than Indesign 5.5? When you are installing the Quark Upgrade you need to call or web chat with their customer service to get the installation key. They do not tell you that in any of the paperwork that comes with Upgrade or in the setup. Also make sure to have the serial number and key of your previous version of Quark. QuarkXPress 9 however takes digital publishing to a whole new level. Outside of print, Web and Flash design you can now create eBooks in the ePUB and Blio formats and most impressively iPad apps and interactive content for them without having to code.QuarkXPress 9.1 includes App Studio for creating interactive content and App Studio Factory for creating the iPad app itself. Be warned that while you can create and test iPad apps once you are ready to submit them to Apple for approval and publishing into the iTunes App Store, you will have to pay some additional license fees. That said compared to any of the alternatives out there right now, QuarkXPress 9 and App Studio represents the lowest cost and best solution for designers to create apps for the iPad (in my opinion at least).
